How to pay advance tax online

It is very easy to pay advance tax online in India. You can use the internet banking facility of any bank to make the payment.

The steps to be followed are:

  1. Log in to the internet banking account.
  2. Click on the ‘Payments/Transfers’ tab.
  3. Click on the ‘Advance Tax’ option.
  4. Enter the Assessment Year, amount of tax payable and the bank account from which the payment is to be made.
  5. Click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  6. The amount will be debited from the account and the receipt will be generated.
  7. Keep the receipt for future reference.

If you are a salaried employee in India, you are required to pay advance tax. This means that you have to pay a part of your estimated tax liability in advance, before the end of the financial year.

Advance tax is usually payable in three installments, on or before the 15th of June, 15th of September and 15th of December.

However, for the financial year 2020-21, the due date for the first installment has been extended to the 30th of September 2020.

There are two ways to pay your advance tax liability –

  1. Online
  2. And offline.

In this article, we will focus on the online method.

How to pay advance tax online

Step 1

Log in to the income tax e-filing portal using your user ID and password.

Step 2

Go to the ‘e-Pay Tax’ tab and fill PAN card Number and Mobile Number, click on ‘Continue’.

Step 3

Enter Mobile OTP and click on ‘continue’.

Step 4

Select 1st Option ‘Income Tax’ and proceed.

Step 5

Select the assessment year for which you want to pay advance tax.

Step 6

Select ‘Advance Tax(100)’ under Type of payment

Step 7

Make the payment through any of the available online payment methods.

Step 8

Once the payment is successful, you will be redirected to the ‘confirmation page’.
Or if you choose RTGS/NEFT, this option you will see.

Step 9

Download and print the Mandate Form for future reference.
